I have a story, you have a story, and so does everyone else for that matter. This is what makes us unique, peculiar, different, similar, liked, disliked, loved, honoured… you get the drift. Nature, nurture, or a bit of both eh? Influenced or influencer? What am I inside? How different am I on the outside? Where did I come from and what was that like? Who do I hang out with and why? What do I do when I am alone in a crowd?

iPad purchase

I have been pondering purchasing an iPad for months. This week I finally bought one. iPad 64GB with Wi-Fi + 3G, and a micro-SIM card from Telus. Handy accessories… keypad docking, camera kit, MobileMe SW, and Case. Last but not least is an OS upgrade for our desktop Mac, that also comes with the iWork suite of productivity tools.

Several noteworthy observations about this purchase transaction…
Apple’s online ordering process is easy, smooth, informative, and very clear instructions.
Shipment support is accurate, trackable and fast. in less than a week after placing the order the major pieces have arrived (sans O/S upgrade – I ordered that several days after initial H/W purchase)

What am I going to do with another computer gadget in my home office? Alright I had to justify this with some solid logic, other than it’s a cool new mobile web/photo/movie/TV/gaming device. First feature that I looked for is: can it function as a general computing device? ie: industry compatible word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation device? A resounding Yes! Will it help me stay organized and in sync with E calendar scheduling, contacts, appointments, phone #’s, while I am mobile? One of my life’s goals is to to get rid of my paper planner (or at least keep it as a backup) and also have a way to track and find my E device if I should lose it! Voila – Apple’s MobileMe software!

Can this device help me keep my brain engaged to help me increase my technology skills in a converged data world? With my time being more and more available in between clients after dropping the off to their appointments. I have several hours to kill either wasting my time in parking lots, driving around, shopping for things… I don’t need, or eating in restaurants that have Wi-Fi that I am not taking advantage of. The iPad will fit this mobile park and figure, think, research, learn something new goal of mine. 35 years in IT has to be put to use, other than playing Red Baron all day, eh? I intend to document my experiences in new life applications, so that I can teach them to others.

I got really hungry today and decided to make an omelette. Not just any omelette, but a healthy one. Whatcha mean? All omelettes are healthy, aren’t they? As I began my food search at home, my stomach decided that I couldn’t do this half-heartedly or take time to go shopping, so I got to work immediately.

I first grabbed four fresh Omega-3 eggs out of the refrigerator, spied the left over salad, decided that the greens were perfect for my omelette and a half-eaten pack of white-sliced mushrooms, some left over old cheddar cheese, a half head of celery from last week, cut up a week old garlic bud, and some potatoes left over from last year’s crop. Mixed it all up with a little fresh milk, sprinkled black pepper, and hot red curry powder we picked up in Grenada almost two years ago, and voila my huge omelette was ready to mow down.

As I settled down to fill my two hollow legs, I mused how much tastier and healthier this would have been if I would have put in only fresh local Lanark County herbs, spices, farm eggs and vegetables from the Herb Garden and our local farmer’s markets. Wow! I could have had a better, fresher, more nutritious omelette and helped out our local economy at the same time.

I am committed (after this meal) to endeavour to eat healthier, and to help share our community’s responsibility in the support of locally grown organic foods as much as possible. My main focus will be to engage myself and others to pursue the local farmer’s produce markets, and disengage mine and others of our plastic bottled water bottles. Current statistics indicate that 45% of the water is awfully expensive, ordinary tap water anyway.

Share your experiences of growing up in small towns in Northern Ontario.

I meet people from all over the world, and 1 one of the most common stories I hear is of where they grew up. Somehow our formative years (before you got your first real job) sunk deep within us to mold us, shape us and give us a longing for those simple times before the responsibilities of life took over. Although that’s another story too!

Post some questions that I am sure you ponder in the wee hours of the morning as well as me. Yes I get up early sometimes to just sit, think and pray.

These days many people are very conscious of what they eat. I posted a note earlier that was a tongue in cheek view of what you could do when you are very hungry, and needed a food fix very fast. somehow not very many commented on it.
